Thanks for your question Eamonn. I would like my step-kids to chose careers or jobs that are interesting (to them), creative or beneficial to others and pay them a half-decent wage. One is in her fourth year of a medical degree, one is on a gap year, with another studying computing at technical college. If someone, especially in their early years, shows an interest in a subject, then I think that it’s our responsibility to encourage it. That’s part of the reason why I like to teach.

It would be lovely in an ideal world for my kids to follow in my footsteps but realistically, I want them to choose a career they are passionate about because it is so much easier then. My oldest son is very keen on business and does not like Science in school but who knows that may change. My 2nd boy has a very enquiring mind so he may well pursue a scientific career. The other 2 are young but are showing lots of interest in my job!
